Dec 1, 2009: AGM, 3 resolutions were passed by the membership:
1) Revising Section 2 of the Constitution to align the Society's stated purposes more accurately with FORR's intention to be inclusive of all those concerned with the diverse values and uses in the Rossland Range and to provide better clarity about the range of actual activities the Society might undertake.
2) Empowering the Board to establish, within certain guidelines, a Streamkeepers' function which would help fulfil FORR objectives relating to stewardship of natural values in the Rossland Range, and public education about the importance of our natural backyard. Streamkeepers, like FORR mountain hikes and heritage displays, would be an opportunity to engage people in Rossland in activities that both satisfy and enlighten.
3) Directing the Board to investigate a "Forest Demo Project", which may possibly result in a forest interpretation trail (or trails, or route) with interpretive signage, e.g. forest type and history, ecological significance, issues to watch for (wildlife, beetles, weeds, etc.), forestry history and rationale, etc. The interpretive site could be used for guided trips (like the hikes FORR presently leads) as well as self-guided tours.
This AGM was especially interesting with Ron Walker's Old Glory Met Station book efforts and Jim Sturgeon's aviator stories about supply drops on top of Old Glory. Both brought photographs to view. Ron Walker spoke about his work to create a book about the Old Glory Met Station. (See the Resources page for details and to purchase the book). Jim Sturgeon of Trail brought his aviator's log book and photos of his airplane that was used to make winter supply drops to the men working on top of Old Glory, and he told stories of Christmas drops and flying in the region.
