Who We Are

The Friends of the Rossland Range is a non-profit charitable organization which must be operated without financial gain for its members, and all earnings and donations must be used only for promoting the Society's purposes.  For details, view the Society's full Constitution.  And, the FORR Bylaws can be viewed on this pdf file :  Bylaws.  

Our Mission

The Friends of the Rossland Range seeks to promote and foster understanding, appreciation and stewardship of the Rossland Range among residents and visitors through educational and recreational activities and other projects.

We seek sharing of the limited alpine lands in the Rossland Range among historical users while giving full consideration to wildlife and environmental values.

Our Goals, Activities, Programs and Services

Establish the Old Glory Alpine for non-motorized recreation activity and preservation of its value as the community watershed, and its visual landscape, wildlife, environmental and recreation values.

Collection, publication and distribution of the history of the Old Glory Alpine area to residents and visitors.

Sponsorship of hikes for all community members and visitors to Old Glory peak, which includes a discussion of the history of the peak’s weather station (the highest point in the Rossland Range),  the environment and wildlife of the area,  past and present recreational users of the Old Glory Alpine area and in the Rossland Range.

Exhibitions and presentations of photographs of the many types of recreational activities and wildlife in the Rossland Range, with an emphasis on the older photographs from the community’s senior citizens who hold the history of the Rossland Range and continue to use the Rossland Range for summer and winter recreation.

Presentation of the acquired National Film Board of Canada 1954 film about the Old Glory Weather Station.

Creation, printing, presentation and distribution of map(s) which show the Old Glory Alpine within the Rossland Range, its major landmarks, trails, and proximity to Rossland.

Interpretive programs, presentations, lectures, discussion groups and other forums to educate people within our region about the economic and health benefits of retaining natural areas with their ecosystems intact

Projects that promote recreational use of the Rossland Range by local and regional residents and by tourists.

Improvement projects that increase the recreational value of the Old Glory Alpine area such as upgrading of trails, building additional trails, improved signage & maps.

Increased and improved trailhead parking (winter and summer).

Other programs, services, activities and projects that raise community awareness of the value of the Rossland Range and meet the purpose stated above.
